Term Definition
Rate CenterThe specific geographic point and corresponding geographic area that are associated with one or more particular NPA/NXX codes that have been assigned to a local exchange carrier for its provision of exchange services. The geographic point is identified by a specific coordinate that is used to calculate distance-sensitive end user traffic to/from the particular NPA/NXX associated with the specific Rate Center.
 
RBOCSee Regional Bell Operating Company.
 
Redirect ServerA redirect server does not issue any SIP requests of its own. After receiving a request other than CANCEL, the server gathers the list of alternative locations and returns a final response of class 3xx or it refuses the request.
 
Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC)The acronym for the local telephone companies created by the Modified Final Judgment in 1984 as part of the break-up of AT&T. The original seven RBOCs were Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, Bell South, Nynex, Pacific Telesis Group, Southwestern Bell, and US West.
