IVR

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is a term used to describe a system to automatically manage incoming calls. An IVR can link phone callers (voice and/or touchtone) with a computer database. It can prompt the caller with a question, collect caller responses, access the company's database and provide a caller with the information they are seeking. It can also take information from the caller, convert it to data and input that data to the database.

An IVR can also place outbounce calls. Most vertical voice telephony solutions are an IVR with some business rules applied.
